A healthy scalp means healthy hair – it brings the right nourishment to the roots. Besides the ubiquitous dandruff, other scalp issues include peeling, itching, and fungal infection; major causes of discomfort and embarrassment. Dr Ashith M Shah, Head- Panel of Trichologists, RichFeel talks about some common scalp problems and ways to banish them. |

• Many scalp issues arise due to seasonal changes and change in the temperature which impacts your scalp’s natural sebum balance. So in winter you might find it ore dry and prone to flakiness.
• Dandruff can also arise due to stress in your life. This actually contributes to hair fall as well.
• To fight flakiness regular massaging of the scalp with oil is very important as it improves circulation to the roots. Also keep the scalp hydrated by drinking at least two litres of water daily.
• Too much root touch ups and ammonia in hair colour can harm the natural state of the scalp. I am against colouring, which is not possible for many women to follow; so I advice on cutting down on the visits to your colourist to give your scalp time to breathe.
• Try to use ammonia free hair colour. Post colouring every time; go for a deep conditioning treatment at least once a week. This will protect your strands and soothe your scalp.
• If you have very sensitive scalp, and are prone to break outs then it is a good idea to check with a scalp and hair doctor. In case of utter sensitivity you might be suffering from hormone related issues, then we prescribe hormonal tablets to deal with it.
• Another reason for sensitivity could be mineral deficiency in your body, in that case we do the relevant tests and then prescribe relevant minerals to replenish it in your body. |
