Sequel by United which joined the list of uptown restaurants in Defence Colony in 2009, claims to be the destination for a global culinary experience. The menu does consist of global cuisines like Spanish, Japanese, Continental, Thai, Chinese and Indian so it will take some time for you to decide. After flipping through pages of the menu several times, this particular mocktail Miss Universe caught my attention. It was a flavorsome combination of cherry pulp, strawberry crush, orange juice and pineapple juice nicely blended with vanilla ice cream. To complete the Miss Universe look, this drink was served with a pineapple piece at top of the glass making it look more like a crown. Surely, it had beauty as well as flavour.
Apart from the long list of dishes mentioned in the menu, Sequel also has special package like Somber Weekend Dining on Fridays and Saturdays, econo lunch for the corporate lot. Since I was told non-veg Tapas was one of the most demanded appetizers, I went ahead with it. It definitely looked very appealing and I thought it would be the ultimate grub for non-veg fans as it had grilled prawns, meat balls, barbequed pork, and garlic chicken wings but I had expected too much. It made me realize that just by combining everything on one plate does not guarantee great taste. Cutting the pieces was an inconvenient task as there were more bones than flesh except the meat balls which were soft and tangy. As this did not work for me, I thought Indian cuisine would be safest. So, I opted for plain naan with Nawabi murg. Cooked in exotic mélange of choicest herbs and onion gravy, this chicken dish was like an overdose of cream. Not only it tasted bland, the colour of the dish also looked dull. Chicken Changezi on the other hand, brightened up the dull mood. Reddish in colour, this chicken dish was spicier and it had taste of crushed tomatoes.
Ambience: This three storey fine dining venue has made use of a modern version of the ‘harshingaar’ motif which signifies the contemporary yet traditional nature of the space. The third floor is the lounge area where the in-house DJ plays dance hits four times a week from Wednesday to Saturday. Here you will only find couch to sit on unlike furniture like chairs on other floors. To demarcate the seating areas, wooden jaali with the harshingaar pattern has been used.
Sequel has it all, cozy ambience, warm staff, multiple cuisines but it missed out on the most important point that helps in scoring which is taste. While stepping out from here, giving full marks to food would be slightly difficult.
